Easier Starting For Morris Magnetos

Morris Magneto introduces a breakthrough item overdue by decades…  an on-board mechanism to retard a magneto for better starting. By flipping a lever, timing is retarded 20 degrees to end the kick-back blues.

Parts number MRA is available for the normal right-hand rotation, or left-hand for a few applications where the magneto turns backwards. The unit comes with a new clear ‘Lexan’ type cap, reworked point set, condensor, gasket, and the necessary components to shift the points as required. A rare-earth magnet on the lever keeps the timing locked advanced by grabbing one of the cap screws.  Patent pending, retail priced at $169.90

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. Obtains Judgement Against Little Sturgis Rally & Races

Kentucky Group Will Change its Name and Pay the South Dakota Community Oriented Non-Profit for its Previous Unauthorized Use.

Sturgis, SD (May 31, 2011)- Officials with Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. announced today that they have settled the lawsuit with a Kentucky entity formerly billing itself as the “Little Sturgis Rally.”  As a part of the agreement, the Kentucky group has agreed to change both its corporate and trade name, eliminating the word mark Sturgis® when used in connection with a motorcycle rally or any other derivations of marks that may be confusingly similar to those owned by SMRi. The Kentucky group also agreed to accept a Consent Final Judgment and a Stipulated Permanent Judgment in favor of SMRi and paid the South Dakota community oriented non-profit an “undisclosed sum,” according to Dean Kinney, Chairperson of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc.

“Our organization is charged with promoting and enhancing the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally while providing a charitable return for the greater Sturgis area, and part of that responsibility is to protect the intellectual property of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. from unauthorized use, infringement and counterfeit goods and services,” said Kinney.
The lawsuit began several years ago when SMRi’s predecessor, the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, became aware that the Kentucky event was continuing its unauthorized use even after an attempt by a former associate of the Kentucky organization to federally register the name “Little Sturgis” was rejected by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Longtime Black Hills-area banker John E. Johnson, a board member of SMRi, said the group is committed to protecting the Sturgis Rally. “Tourism is extremely vital to the economy of the Black Hills, and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is a crown jewel for the industry,” Johnson said. “Motorcycle tourism in the Black Hills and the Sturgis® brand are both at risk if we allow unauthorized use of these valuable marks. This is not something of importance to just Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. but indeed to the hundreds of Black Hills tourism businesses and jobs that exist, in part, because of the worldwide notoriety of the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally.”
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. is the owner of the portfolio of trademarks and service marks related to the world-famous event, including the word marks STURGIS® and BLACK HILLS ® when used in connection with Rally goods and services.  The City of Sturgis is a licensee of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. and is authorized to sell sponsorships using the intellectual property of the organization.  SMRi also has about a dozen official licensees for a wide- variety of products.  Distributors and retailers of STURGIS® and BLACK HILLS® Rally-related merchandise can be certain they are purchasing authorized and officially licensed merchandise of the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally, simply by sourcing it through a licensee.  “The tourism season is here,” commented Kinney “and we anticipate a strong year for the industry and especially for the hundreds of retailers that sell our products. We appreciate their business and that of the hundreds of thousands of consumers that seek out and purchase the products of this remarkable and historic brand.” Questions regarding the licensing program of the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally can be directed to Lisa Weyer, a Licensing Agent for SMRI, at 605.347.5336 or Lisa.Weyer@SturgisProducts.com.

Health Insurance Basics

Unless you're a millionaire and can pay for your health care out of pocket, health insurance is a crucial purchase. The time to buy it is before you have an accident, suffer a serious illness or discover you're pregnant.
Individual health insurance doesn't cover health care for medical problems or conditions that start before the date you were issued a policy, although there are now Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plans available from the government. However, due to health care reform legislation, health insurers will no longer be able to deny coverage or refuse to renew coverage to adults with pre-existing conditions beginning on Jan. 1, 2014.

Will you lose your employer-sponsored health insurance in 2014?

Since Congress passed the federal health care reform package, debate has buzzed over whether employers will stop offering health insurance benefits in 2014, pushing their workers into the new health insurance exchanges.
Should you be worried about losing your group health plan at work? Probably not, human resource consultants say, although the picture remains a bit fuzzy.
A recent study by the Urban Institute on employer-sponsored coverage under health reform concludes "reports of its demise are premature." Using a "health insurance policy simulation model," researchers found that overall employer-sponsored coverage under the Affordable Care Act would not be much different from what it would have been without reform.

Roadsmith Introduces Indian Chief Trike Conversion

Press Release:
The unmistakable look of the Indian Motorcycle has been turning heads for over a 110 years and the Indian Chief has always been the most iconic of the tribe. It was with this in mind that legendary trike company, Roadsmith Trikes, took on this model as their newest design and initial foray into this brand of motorcycle trike conversion.  Following Indian's recent sale to Polaris Industries, it's a sure bet that this brand will receive a much needed boost from its new owners and, quite possibly, a return to its former popularity and status. Knowing this, Roadsmith's design team went to great lengths to capture every nuance of the design and personality of this easily recognizable motorcycling legend.  With its swooping rear fenders and graceful lines, this new trike design continues the look and feel of the original while, at the same time, creating a comfortable and utilitarian three-wheeled version.

Complete with a spacious trunk (requiring only one hand to open) and fully independent suspension, this new model offers all of the comfort and convenience one would expect from a Roadsmith.  Options include the company's proprietary AccuRide Automatic Leveling Suspension System, as well as a host of other convenient and stylish options and accessories.
Roadsmith Trikes is based in White Bear Lake, MN where it manufactures and distributes twelve different trike conversion kits for Honda, Harley-Davidson and now Indian motorcycles. They are also represented by over a hundred dealers in the U.S. and Canada as well as their own retail locations, The Trike Shop at Destination Daytona and on Beach Street in Daytona Beach, FL.

Motorcycle Industry Leader, Pioneer Joins Motorcycle Hall of Fame

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The Motorcycle Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that Parts Unlimited founder Fred Fox, who built a small business into the largest aftermarket motorcycle, snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle and personal watercraft accessory distributorship in the world, will be inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame as part of the 2011 American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Legends & Champions Weekend at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 18-20.

"It's not exaggerating to say that if you ride, it's extremely likely that one or more parts on your bike, or at least one piece of your riding gear, was supplied through your dealer by Parts Unlimited or Drag Specialties," said Jeffrey V. Heininger, chairman of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, which raises money for the Hall of Fame. "Fred Fox's reach in the motorcycle world is vast, and he's definitely earned a place among the greats in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame."
Fox founded Parts Unlimited in 1967 to distribute motorcycle parts and accessories to dealers. Today his parent company, LeMans Corporation, is based in Janesville, Wisc., and it employs more than 1,200 people in operations spread across the U.S., Canada and in Europe. Parts Unlimited serves the "metric" side of motorcycling, while Drag Specialties serves the American V-twin industry. The company's own brands include Thor Motocross, Moose Off-Road, Icon and Z1R helmets and apparel.
Fox elevated motorcycling and the sport of motorcycle racing nationally by creating a state-of-the-art distribution system that got parts to dealers quickly. He also helped grow the sport by sponsoring motorcycle racing series, as well as amateur and professional racers.
Additionally, Fox served for 14 years on the Motorcycle Industry Council's Board of Directors or on one of the trade group's committees.
"This is obviously a very nice honor, and it's much appreciated, but at the same time, there's a lot of people I could give credit to for making this work," Fox said. "It's not a one-man band. We were, at one time, up to 1,600 employees."
Fox noted that he never expected to be named to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
"I was obviously a little surprised," he said. "A lot of the people in the Hall of Fame are pretty good racers, and I was a mediocre racer. I saw that they were faster than me, and I was a mechanical engineer, so I worked on the tuning side of it, and the rest of it grew out of that. I have a lot of mottos, but one is 'Get out of bed and try to run the business better than the day before.' We're very proud of that."
Fox joins previously announced magazine pioneer Phil Schilling in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Class of 2011. The remaining 2011 inductees will be announced in random order over the next few weeks.
The Class of 2011 will officially be inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame on Nov. 18 as part of the AMA Legends & Champions Weekend. In addition to the induction ceremony, the weekend includes the 2011 Motorcycle Hall of Fame Concours d'Elegance on Saturday, Nov. 19, featuring some of the country's most impressive original and restored classic motorcycles. The AMA Racing Championship Banquet closes out the weekend on Sunday, Nov. 20, where AMA Racing amateur champions of all ages will be recognized for their 2011 accomplishments.

Tickets for the AMA Legends & Champions weekend are now available through this online registration form. Tickets may be ordered over the phone by calling (800) 262-5646.

The AMA Legends & Champions Weekend also includes the final round of the GEICO AMA EnduroCross National Championship Series on Saturday evening, Nov. 19. EnduroCross tickets are available at www.orleansarena.com/event-calendar/endurocross or by phone at (702) 284-7777 or (888) 234-2334.

The AMA Legends & Champions Weekend will be held at the Las Vegas Red Rock Resort, a world-class spa, hotel and casino, featuring a range of entertainment, dining and family-friendly attractions. The facility's expansive ballrooms provide a stunning backdrop for the AMA Legends & Champions Weekend, which is certain to be memorable for the 2011 inductees, champions, families, friends and fans. The legislation unanimously passed the Pennsylvania Senate last week and is expected to have bipartisan support in the state House.

Military Personnel Advised to Ride Safe in the Spring

It's May Motorcycle Awareness Time again. All the major publications are advising motorists to watch out for motorcycles. But the military has the same problem on its bases. At Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, they take extra precautions to train their personnel in safe riding techniques and to promote safe riding including wearing proper protective riding apparel. Here's an excerpt from an article on their website by Staff Sgt. Carlton Anthony:

"No one expects to be seriously injured or die in a motorcycle mishap when Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst warriors begin hitting the roadways. Unfortunately, every spring the number of motorcycle mishaps spike due to several factors: inexperience, risky riding, alcohol, speed, distractions and fatigue. All these factors are preventable and may lead to fewer accidents during this time of year." -- Staff Sgt. Carlton Anthony
