Floats used in round bowl Series M Linkert carburetors on all Harley-Davidsons from 1933-56 plus Panheads and ‘K’ models until 1964/65, were made from cork sealed with shellac. This same carb was used on Indians from 1941 to 1953. The use of an original cork float today is unwise.
The solvent for shellac is alcohol. 10% alcohol is blended into American gasoline and is being mandated in other countries as well. If your original style cork floats have not yet failed, they will.
Enfield Racing has developed replacement floats from modern materials (the same as used today in all cars and trucks) which fit all Linkert M Series carburetors. They are called “Rubber Ducky Floats.” Rubber Duckys are the only floats molded precisely to match the original weight, size and settings. These floats are impervious to modern fuels with ethanol and oxygenators. They are also reliable with 112 octane leaded race gas. They are guaranteed not to swell or leak.
The Linkert was designed to operate with floats of a specific weight, size, and setting level. Reproduction brass floats create tuning problems because they are larger and weigh 300% more than the original. Additionally brass floats are so thin that they can deform easily with improper handling. Brass corrodes quickly from the water absorbed by the ethanol in current gasoline mixtures. Most brass floats will fail due to pin-hole corrosion within two years. Rubber Ducky Floats are $40 each and can be purchased from the maker. Quantity pricing is available.

PEEK Polymer Intake Manifold Seals Eliminate Leaking On Vintage Harleys And Indians
Enfield Racing is offering “Super Seals” made from injection molded PEEK. PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a linear semi-crystalline thermoplastic, a high performance material that eliminates intake leaking. PEEK has a melting point of 650°F (343°C) with a continuous use temperature of 500°F. Enfield Racing Super Seals offer a long service life without distortion associated with cylinder head temperatures. They can also be re-used which is not advisable with original brass seals.
Enfield Racing is the only manufacturer in the world who has mastered
the precision injection processes of this exotic material for use as intake seals. Tests have proven that Enfield Racing “Super Seals” seal at 1/3 the torque of the original seal material. A pair sells for $40.00. Quantity pricing is available.
PEEK seals fit these Harley and Indian models.
