Renegade Garden Party Draws Over 400 Dealers From Around The Globe

In today’s economy most companies are pulling back the marketing budget, but that is not the case for Renegade Wheels.  Nobody puts on a classier show or treats their clientele to a finer product and customer service experience than Renegade Wheels.  True to their notable reputation, the Renegade team recently held a Garden Party that even Ricky Nelson would have liked to attend.

The three day event was held in a transformed 3,000 sq ft storefront at the Anaheim Garden Walk, an outside mall near Disneyland in southern California.  It was held within blocks of the annual Harley-Davidson summer dealer gathering at the Anaheim Convention Center, and adjacent to Tom Scott’s Harley-Davidson of Anaheim satellite store.  The end results appeared to be nothing short of a high-scale art exhibit.

Renegade’s stylish presentation drew over 400 H-D dealer personnel from over 18 countries.  Attendees were able to meet one-on-one with the entire Renegade team, and take in exclusive displays by Danny Gray, Heartland USA, Avon and Dragonfly while visiting with friends, new and old, from around the globe.

The Renegade Wheels displays provided a close look and a hands-on experience with over 50 of the company’s trend-setting, custom motorcycle wheels, rotors, air cleaners and other specialty parts.  Items were displayed individually, as well as mounted on an impressive fleet of striking custom bikes.

Guests had considerable interest in the “Evolution Corner,” which walked them through the entire Renegade Wheels manufacturing process:  from aluminum ingot, forging, design, machining, polishing, finish applications and then to final finished product.

Renegade Wheels went all out on Thursday night with California tacos, fine wine and cold beer on tap, non-stop DJ hosted music, door prizes and a giveaway drawing for a set of Renegade Wheels to one lucky dealer.

When the dust settled, Renegade’s Garden Party get-together proved to be a huge success with the H-D fraternity.  Renegade really raised the bar with this latest event and we certainly look forward to more of the same from this progressive company.

For information on other upcoming events and the entire Renegade line of trend-setting wheels and other fine accessories, all you could ask for can be found on the company’s visually stunning web site.

August 23, 2011: Custom Chrome today announces the addition of the Custom Chrome International Bike Show Series: Italian Championship at the Motor Bike Expo in Verona, Italy, January 20th - 22nd, 2012. Custom Chrome Europe has long been a sponsor of Motor Bike Expo since the beginning, donating prizes to various bike shows throughout the history of the event. The time is ripe for an Italian competition.” Scholz adds.

Participating bikes will be nominated and marked with special Custom Chrome International Bike Show Series “ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP” markers, out of all motorcycles present at the 2012 Motor Bike Expo. 2012 Indian Models

Indian Motorcycles, recently acquired by Polaris, has released images of three new models for 2012. All based on the Chief Chassis, they are distinguished by paint and metal finishes, as well as leather saddlebags on the Chief Vintage. All are powered by the air cooled pushrod Power Plus 105ci engine, which features a closed loop, sequential, port injection with heated oxygen sensors. A six speed transmission is mated to the engine via chain, and a belt drives the rear wheel.
The frame is a monoshock unit, and there are dual calipers up front, and a single in the rear, with floating rotors fore and aft. The 16-inch wheels are spoked. All bikes feature a solo saddle with fringe. Air-brushed pinstripes and signature Indian script complete the custom quality paint on each and every Indian Motorcycle.

For Vintage Bike Lovers: Trouble-Free Floats For All Linkert M Series Carburetors

Floats used in round bowl Series M Linkert carburetors on all Harley-Davidsons from 1933-56 plus Panheads and ‘K’ models until 1964/65, were made from cork sealed with shellac. This same carb was used on Indians from 1941 to 1953. The use of an original cork float today is unwise.
The solvent for shellac is alcohol. 10% alcohol is blended into American gasoline and is being mandated in other countries as well. If your original style cork floats have not yet failed, they will.

Enfield Racing has developed replacement floats from modern materials (the same as used today in all cars and trucks) which fit all Linkert M Series carburetors. They are called “Rubber Ducky Floats.” Rubber Duckys are the only floats molded precisely to match the original weight, size and settings. These floats are impervious to modern fuels with ethanol and oxygenators. They are also reliable with 112 octane leaded race gas. They are guaranteed not to swell or leak.
The Linkert was designed to operate with floats of a specific weight, size, and setting level. Reproduction brass floats create tuning problems because they are larger and weigh 300% more than the original. Additionally brass floats are so thin that they can deform easily with improper handling. Brass corrodes quickly from the water absorbed by the ethanol in current gasoline mixtures. Most brass floats will fail due to pin-hole corrosion within two years. Rubber Ducky Floats are $40 each and can be purchased from the maker. Quantity pricing is available.

PEEK Polymer Intake Manifold Seals Eliminate Leaking On Vintage Harleys And Indians

Enfield Racing is offering “Super Seals” made from injection molded PEEK. PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a linear semi-crystalline thermoplastic, a high performance material that eliminates intake leaking. PEEK has a melting point of 650°F (343°C) with a continuous use temperature of 500°F. Enfield Racing Super Seals offer a long service life without distortion associated with cylinder head temperatures. They can also be re-used which is not advisable with original brass seals.

Enfield Racing is the only manufacturer in the world who has mastered
the precision injection processes of this exotic material for use as intake seals. Tests have proven that Enfield Racing “Super Seals” seal at 1/3 the torque of the original seal material. A pair sells for $40.00. Quantity pricing is available.

PEEK seals fit these Harley and Indian models.

Polaris Announces Changes in Leadership Team

Polaris Announces Changes in Leadership Team
Organizational transitions further strengthen Company's global growth goals

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug 19, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE:PII) today announced several organizational changes designed to align its leadership team with the company's long term strategic objectives. Polaris' growth outlook is exceptionally strong, supported by the recent success and strategic expansion of its product offerings and global footprint. These moves will enhance opportunities for continued domestic and international growth, and are effective immediately.

"The transition strengthens the company as we continue to explore business opportunities around the globe, and puts our leaders in positions to further grow and develop to meet these challenges," said Scott Wine, Polaris CEO. "We are incredibly fortunate to have such a talented team of people at Polaris. Our deep reservoir of strong leaders allows us to make changes from a position of strength, which will maximize both the potential of the company and our executive leaders."
Creating a laser focus on international markets is a primary objective of these changes. In the newly created role of VP - EMEA, Matt Homan will lead the company's Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) business, concentrating on the development of both organic and inorganic growth opportunities in the region. Homan began his Polaris career in 2002 as ATV marketing manager, and for the past several years he served as VP and General Manager Off-Road Vehicle business, driving that unit's tremendous growth.
Also focusing on international growth in a revised and strategically critical role, Mike Dougherty will oversee business in all countries outside the EMEA region, with particular focus on Brazil, India, and China, as VP - Asia Pacific and Latin America. Dougherty has already made significant contributions to Polaris' international expansion and this role is designed to allow him to accelerate growth in these important regions. Since joining the company in 1998 as international sales manager, Dougherty has held several internationally-focused positions, including his most recent as VP - Global New Market Development. Dougherty also ran the ATV business during his Polaris tenure.
Paramount to Polaris' success is the commitment to continually develop innovative products and Dave Longren's leadership as VP and CTO of Engineering exemplifies this commitment. Longren will now lead the entire Off-Road Vehicle business as VP - ORV and ORV Engineering. He will continue to oversee the Bobcat adjacency as well as Polaris' growing Defense effort. Longren's broad experience and leadership has been critical to the various roles he's held during his Polaris career, and will be a tremendous asset to his stewardship of the entire Off-Road Vehicle business. In addition to Longren's strong record of success at Polaris, he also excelled in general management roles with his previous employers.
Scott Swenson becomes VP - Small Vehicle business and Parts, Garments & Accessories (PG&A), including the recent GEM acquisition. The Small Vehicle business represents a critical component of Polaris' long term strategy, centered upon growing through non-powersports adjacencies. Swenson began his Polaris career as Assistant Treasurer in 1998 and over the last five years has been instrumental in revitalizing the snowmobile business. Swenson also played an integral role in the expansion of the company's PG&A business, which will remain under his leadership. In addition to Small Vehicles and PG&A, Swenson will play an active leadership role in commercializing related Powertrain technologies from Polaris' Swissauto business. He will continue to lead Polaris' retail financial services group.
Mike Jonikas becomes VP of the Snowmobile business and Sales & Corporate Marketing. Jonikas began his Polaris career in 2000 as Director of ATV Marketing & Product Management, and over the past six years played a key role in the company's transformation to a retail business model via the successful MVP program. In his new capacity, Jonikas will accelerate the positive growth trend exhibited by the company's legacy Snowmobile business, while continuing to lead development of a new organic business adjacency initiative.
Steve Menneto, who rose from District Sales Manager to General Manager of Victory Motorcycles between 1997 and 2009, has been promoted to VP - Motorcycles and will continue to oversee both Victory and the recently acquired Indian motorcycle business, reporting directly to Bennett Morgan, President and COO. Menneto's strong sales background, significant contributions to Victory's growth, and industry experience make him the ideal person to drive Polaris' expanded, two-brand motorcycle business.
Steve Kemp, with his extensive engineering background, has been promoted to CTO of Engineering, with oversight of all product lines excluding Off-Road Vehicles. He has served as one of Polaris' Directors of Engineering since 2009 and had 26 years of product development experience prior to joining Polaris. Kemp has been a key contributor to the teams that, during the previous two years, have repeatedly launched innovative products while simultaneously driving record quality and process improvements. He will bring that strong engineering background and history of success to this new role, working closely with Dave Longren and the Off-Road Vehicles technical team, while reporting directly to Bennett Morgan. Steve Cohoon, Director of ATV Engineering, is being promoted to General Manager, Powertrain and Senior Director, Snow Engineering. Cohoon will succeed Allan Hurd in the Powertrain role, as Hurd has declared his intent to retire. Polaris will benefit from having the skills and deep experience of both Cohoon and Hurd, who will work together closely during this gradual transition.
Polaris continues to outperform in a challenging market environment and these leadership moves are specifically designed to maintain, or even accelerate that trend.

Job Candidate Testing Program Cuts Harley-Davidson's Injuries

Physical ability to perform job tasks checked before workers hired

Harley-Davidson Motor Co. has significantly reduced musculoskeletal injury claims among new employees by making job offers contingent on a measurement of a potential job candidate's physical ability to complete tasks.
The motorcycle manufacturer has spent less than $5,000 total on musculoskeletal workers compensation claims reported by new employees screened under a post-offer employment testing program, dubbed POET, launched in 2008, said Caroline O'Connell, Harley-Davidson's human resources process improvement project manager in Milwaukee.

"We strategically selected Cincinnati because the city welcomes our industry with open arms in addition to offering lower hotel, air, transportation, and overall costs for both exhibitors and dealers.  Our mission has not changed.  We haven't had to re-launch our show because it works.  Back in 2000 we set out to host, educate, and present profit opportunities to V-twin dealers.  Now, twelve years later, we still deliver on that goal. Our exhibitors plan all year for their presence in Cincy. They come prepared to show their newest products, distribute catalogs, offer show specials and network with industry colleagues and the press.  We work hard to provide them the best platform to deliver their messages.  If you are a V-twin dealer, Cincinnati is the right place to get business done and leave with profit-centered ideas" said show producer, Jim Betlach.

On top of seeing what's new on the show floor, dealers can attend an assortment of interactive seminars presented by expert industry panelists. Leave armed with knowledge and information to increase your shops' profits. That's what the V-Twin Expo is all about.
The 12th Annual V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati February 4-6, 2012 is not open to the public and focuses exclusively on the American V-twin motorcycle market. It is the only exclusive V-Twin trade show attracting dealers from the U.S., Canada, and world. The V-Twin Expo by Easyriders is wholly owned by Paisano Publications. The V-Twin Expo has not been combined with any other show or company.

How Lonnie Isam Acquired One Of The First Three Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Ever Produced

Rapid City Journal:
Lonnie Isam's life has been dominated by two seemingly divergent tracks - the need for high-tech, high-pressure, drag-strip speed and the love of early 20th century motorcycle engineering.
Isam's competitive drive and love for old motorcycles brought him success in drag racing and business over three decades in Houston.
It also brought him a boatload of money and a world-class collection of antique Harley-Davidsons along with an encyclopedic knowledge of how old Harleys were put together.

Breakfast At The Easyriders Saloon

The new Easyriders Saloon in Sturgis, at Lazell Street and Junction Avenue, was right in the middle of all the Sturgis action for the 71st Annual Black Hills Classic. Good food, fun, music, libations and hot waitresses, what else would you expect from Easyriders?
Outside bikini-clad honeys offered to wash your scooter, and inside the steakhouse was serving up grub to a grateful biker nation. A rockin’ band in the bar kept the crowd entertained non-stop.
On Thursday morning the Paisano crew invited the biggest players in the motorcycle after market to a breakfast to introduce our latest publication, ROAD IRON. A few of the luminaries that were present are shown below. Everyone is excited about the new magazine, on the newsstands now.
The Easyriders Saloon is open year-around, so be sure to check it out the next time you are in the area.

Triumph Recalls Sprint GT, Tiger 800, and Tiger 800 XC for Top Box Problem

Triumph is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Sprint GT, Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC motorcycles manufactured from June 2010 through June 2011.

The top box locking handle is missing a clip on the locking mechanism and thus it is possible that the top box may detach from the machine.

The number of units affected is 134.

Sturgis Report: Michael Lichter Jeff Decker Exhibit

The industry party hosted by Michael Lichter of the work and collections of sculpter Jeff Decker was very well attended. Many industry luminaries were in attendance, this is by no means an exhaustive list, but some of the people we spoke with were Burt Baker and James Simonelli of BAKER Drivetrain, Ted Sands and Mark Finney of Performance Machine, Ray Drea of Harley-Davidson, as well as the legendary Clyde Fessler, Hall of Famers Larry Coleman of Barnett Performance, Rogue Herelehy, and Chris Summers. Artist David Uhl, Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brotheres, Laura and Brian Klock and their extended family, Jill and Zack Parham, Kyle and George Marakas of K&G Cycles, video crews from around the world, as well as the motorcycling press from the four corners of the globe.
Free beer, and food, and a cash bar kept the crowd lubricated and the conversation flowing.
The exhibit featured Jeff Decker's completed sculptures, as well as some in progress, and Jeff's extensive collection of motorcycle club colors, historic racer's apparel and of course some truly wonderful motorcycles.
An excellent time was had by all.

Sturgis Numbers Down, Sales Up

Most of the venders we spoke to at Sturgis are reporting that despite lower numbers of participants, their sales are up. Perhaps because of less congestion, customers can make better connection with the sellers.
The test rides sponsored by all of the major manufacturers such as Harley, Victory, Lehman and Star all seem to be very popular.
The weather has been cooler than year's past, with isolated thunderstorms that last a short time, just long enough to cool off the air, and temperatures are in the 80's for the most part.

Judge Rules Harley Bikers May Proceed with Overheating and Burn Lawsuit Against Harley Davidson

Saturday, August 6, 2011
Valenica, CA (PRWEB) August 06, 2011
Last week, a federal judge ruled that a class action lawsuit against Harley Davidson could go forward, siding with four bikers who claim their Harley Davidson motorcycles were defectively designed because their engines ran so hot as to pose a constant danger to riders of being burned and were therefore not fit for their intended use.

The complaint alleges that since 1999, Twin Cam 88, 96, 103 and 110 cubic inch engines in Harley motorcycles produce severe, excessive heat causing clothing to catch on fire, burn injuries and the danger of burn injury to riders and passengers as well as overheating causing premature engine wear and in models manufactured after 2006, transmission failure. Although Harley Davidson asked the Eastern District of California court to throw out the claims under state law, the U.S. District Judge sided with the bikers.
Greg Owen, a partner at Los Angeles personal injury attorneys Owen, Patterson & Owen and one of the lawyers representing the plaintiffs in this case, states, "Harley Davidson has known about this problem from the early 2000s and has the technology to fix it, but has chosen to sell tens of thousands of touring bikes here in California without disclosing this known defect. When Harley customers complain to Harley's dealers after purchase, Harley's response is that's normal and it refuses to offer an effective fix to the problem."
Owen believes the unsafe heat problem is due to Harley selling larger engines that cannot comply with the emission standards of many states, including California.
'The fix is pretty simple,' says Owen, "and Harley already has it - manufacture touring bikes with liquid cooled engines instead of air cooled engines. If Harley did that this serious design and safety defect would go away."
The recent ruling allows the case to move forward, and Harley Davidson will now face Class Action Certification process at the end of the month.
Class members are encouraged to contact Greg Owen at Owen, Patterson & Owen for more information, by calling (866) 654-4947.

A-1 Auto Transport Announces Motorcycle Shipping As An Addition To Their Transport Services

Aptos, CA (PRWEB) August 08, 2011.
A-1 Auto Transport has yet again stepped up their efforts to fully satisfy their customers by adding motorcycle shipping to their vast array of services. Specializing in the shipment of automobiles for over two decades now, A-1 Auto Transport has recently been looking to extend their services into new markets across the board. In recent years, they have added services such as shipping boats and household goods, and even providing auto insurance quotes. In accordance with their goal to provide customers with a comprehensive service, A-1 Auto Transport Marketing Director Joe Webster stated that, “These recent changes are only the beginning. There’s still much more to come.”

Whether you’re relocating your motorcycle, buying a new one from out of state, or planning a fly and ride vacation, you want to know that you’re getting the highest quality services on the market, but also for a reasonable price. A-1 Auto Transport has been providing the lowest car shipping rates on the market for years and is now going to bring their “low prices for great services” motto to the motorcycle shipping industry.
Having your motorcycle shipped to its new destination by a certified auto carrier that specializes in motorcycle transport is definitely the safest way to go. Conversely, when moving your bike with an all-in-one moving company that has little experience with moving motorcycles, you’re taking quite a risk. If not properly loaded and secured for shipment, your motorcycle could suffer thousands of dollars in damages due to negligence.
Rather than risking the unnecessary stress and damages that can come along with using unqualified auto transport companies to move your motorcycle, choose a certified company that will be able to get the job done the way it’s supposed to be done. A-1 Auto Transport uses the most modern and secure forms of shipment when it comes to motorcycle transport. Their shipping process involves padding the frame of the bike to prevent dings and scratches during shipment. After being padded, the bike is then loaded and strapped into an enclosed carrier crate. This is done to ensure that the motorcycle does not shift during transport, and also to make sure that no external elements are able to affect the condition of the bike.
This newest addition to the line-up of services offered by A-1 Auto Transport just goes to show that this company is looking for any and every way to make sure that their customers are completely satisfied. To find out more about the extensive list of services provided by A-1 Auto Transport, check out their website at www.a1autotransport.com. You can also contact one of their sales representatives at toll free 1-800-452-2880.
